CIRA Has Disenfranchised Me! New Rules Creates Chaos
Shame on the Canadian Internet Registration Authority. The blundering agency trying to justify its existence as it floats from one chaotic process to another has done it again. This time the great “democratic” body has succeeded in disenfranchising me as a voting member even though I own TWO .ca domains. Shame!
This evening I received an e-mail stating everyone wishing to continue to be a voting member of CIRA are now required to “re-authenticate” themselves. Huh? WTF? How and what is that? As I read on it explained I needed to provide my phone number so a representative could call me to confirm my information. Jeez. Oh wait. I can call them! Great!
I called the toll-free number to Ottawa and received a pleasant representative who explained the authentication was required, especially to consolidate those with multiple .ca accounts. OK. That made sense. Here was my phone call. Thank you. No sorry. We have to mail it to you… no, send it by courier to a Canada post depot near you to be picked up with picture ID. Whaaaaaaat?
Notwithstanding my presence in Canada (there is a residency requirement for the .ca domain), why would I spend my time jumping through hoops proving who I have always been for the past 4 years of owning these domains? Don’t like it? Keep your domains, but loose your voting rights.
Oh, ya. That’s democratic. Oh Canada - clean up your act. *sigh*
